It’s baaaack! The FLATLINERS remake that had emerged back in the summer of 2011 has, after a long hiatus, been resurrected by Columbia Pictures. And it’s got one of the more in-demand genre directors attached.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Danish director Niels Arden Oplev, best known for helming the original GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, has become “attached” to direct FLATLINERS, which was written by Ben Ripley (SOURCE CODE).
Oplev recently directed the “Under the Dome” pilot for CBS and Amblin Entertainment; he’s also got DEAD MAN DOWN, starring Colin Farrell and his DRAGON TATTOO star Noomi Rapace, coming out on March 8th.
In the original FLATLINERS, directed by Joel Schumacher,
Kiefer Sutherland stars as an ambitious, charismatic medical student who persuades classmates Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon to take part in a reckless experiment. To see if there is life after death, they will kill themselves: temporarily shut down (“flatline”) their heartland brain functions to briefly experience clinical death. After Sutherland survives the first experiment, the others flatline for increasingly longer intervals. But their horror begins when they realize that although they’ve come back alive… they haven’t come back alone.
No further details are available at this time, but it shall be very interesting to see this movie come together, especially in front of the camera.
