It has been more than a while since we here at AITH were able to give you guys a recommendation on fright flicks you should be checking out over on Netflix. Our bad. It's just that Netflix has been slipping more and more on the quality horror they offer. That said, there are a few gems hitting the streaming service this December and today we wanted to share our top five recommends.
Enjoy!
Okay, so maybe V FOR VENDETTA isn't a horror movie. Sue me. But still, everyone needs to see this movie. Already seen it? Well, make sure to watch it again this December. The film's production design and cinematography are slick as hell and the movie boasts terrific performances by the always reliable Natalie Portman and Mr. Hugo Weaving (who's entire performance takes place behind a mask). Tag to that, some great knife fight action sequences and V FOR VENDETTA is a must-watch this December.
Don't roll your eyes too hard at the inclusion of director Lawrence Kasdan's big-budget take on Stephen King's novel DREAMCATCHER. Sure, I remember walking out of the theater with my head spinning, thinking "How the hell do you make a movie THAT bad?" But over the years I have grown to really appreciate this film. At least the first act. So if you've never seen the film or remember it as utter garbage, make sure to give it a(nother) watch this December. You just might thank me.
This recommendation is a film you may not have heard of before. Actually, KILLER LEGENDS is a documentary, but don't let that scare you away. It is awesome. The film delves into the truth behind some famous urban legends, including people putting poison and/or razor blades inside Halloween candy, the babysitter who gets a sinister phone call from upstairs, and even the famous story of the hooked maniac who (almost) killed two teens making out. You know the legends. Here is a film that will dig into them and let you know the truth behind the elaborate fiction.
This entry isn't so much of a recommend because, as you can imagine, I have not yet had the opportunity to check the film out myself. But you'd better believe that once BRIGHT hits Netflix later this month, I will be giving it a view ASAP. From the script by Max Landis to the combo of Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, this is a movie that needs to be seen. It might be a trainwreck or it could be a stunning big-budget thrill! I'm leaning more towards the former, unfortunately, but there's only one way to find out!
I don't know about you, but I absolutely loved the hell out of Mark Duplass and director Patrick Brice's original found footage chiller CREEP. And I am excited to let you guys know that I found the film's sequel CREEP 2 to surpass the original film in almost every regard. From Duplass' fearless (and fittingly creepster) performance to the unpredictable plot developments, CREEP 2 is the number one movie you should be checking out on Netflix this December! Hell, make it a CREEP double feature!
Make sure to hit us up and let us know what you're most excited about checking out this December on Netflix in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
