The 46th Vice President of the United States, Dick Cheney, is one of the most enigmatic figures in modern political history, and the new movie VICE from Adam McKay hopes to shed a light on the man who worked for both Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush The very first trailer for the movie is here and it puts star Christian Bale and his transformative performative front and center, with actors Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld, and Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush right by his side. Oh, what secrets do you hold, Mr. Cheney?

The movie looks like it digs into most of Cheney's career, going back to his time working under the first Bush, as well as his time as CEO of Halliburton. What the trailer really digs into, though, is the fact that Cheney was able to talk Bush into making him one of the more powerful VPs in American history, taking what is mostly a backseat role and used it to oversee matters of the military and foreign policy. As that last shot in the trailer proves, Cheney was a sly dog indeed.
I don't think I need to say this, but I'm going to anyway: to this movie looks am-az-ing. Everyone in the cast looks sensational, especially Bale of Cheney and Rockwell as Bush, and both could be getting some serious Oscar attention this year. Not only that, but it just looks to have that meticulous blend of an informative biopic and self-aware/hilarious exposé that made THE BIG SHORT so great. I don't know about ya'll, but this movie has just become one of my most anticipated movies of the year.
