First trailer for the WWII political drama, Emperor, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Matthew Fox arrives

Back in September we showed a clip from EMPEROR, the new WWII political thriller starring Tommy Lee Jones and Matthew Fox, which saw Jones portraying the famed General MacArthur with the usual strength and “swagger” he usually brings to his roles.  Now, we have a full trailer for the film, which gives more insight into Fox’s role and the overall gist of the film.  It looks like a solid historical drama, which touches on the various aspects of the dynamic between the U.S. and Japan during WWII.  The pic is directed by Peter Webber (HANNIBAL RISING, THE GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING).

Take a look:

Tommy Lee Jones is rarely out of form and it’s nice to see Matthew Fox getting more roles.  Like most of ABC’s Lost cast, I’m always rooting to see them in more films as it was one of the most talented batch of actors tossed together on a time-morphing island.  Fox recently starred in the lackluster ALEX CROSS and will next be seen in WORLD WAR Z with Brad Pitt.  I think he’s got a lot of potential to branch out into leading-man status.  Hopefully, his turn in EMPEROR will help him along the way.

Here’s the synopsis:

As General Douglas MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones) suddenly finds himself the de facto ruler of a foreign nation, he assigns an expert in Japanese culture, General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox), to covertly investigate the looming question hanging over the country: should the Japanese Emperor, worshiped by his people but accused of war crimes, be punished or saved?

EMPEROR is slated to begin proceedings on March 8, 2013.
