The first trailer for DEADFALL, a winter-set thriller starring Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Charlie Hunnam, Kate Mara, Sissy Spacek, Kris Kristofferson, and Treat Williams has made it’s debut. The film, directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky (THE COUNTERFEITERS), premiered at Tribeca this past spring and is now gearing up for its release in a few months. The reviews for the pic were “iffy” and after seeing the trailer I can kind of see why.
Bundle up:
The film looks appealing enough, especially with a great cast, but something feels very…direct to video about the whole thing, which is rather fitting since the film will debut on VOD before a limited release in theaters. My wife commented that it’s like a dream cast for both men and women, with Bana and Hunnam for the ladies and Wilde and Mara for the boys (or vice versa, depending on preferences). I tend to agree, but I don’t think it’s enough to make a good film. However, it definitely has my interest and I’d catch it on Netflix at the least. What say you?
Here’s the synopsis:
Siblings Addison (Eric Bana) and Liza (Olivia Wilde) are on the run from a casino heist gone wrong. When a car accident leaves their wheel man and a state trooper dead, they split up and make a run for the Canadian border in the worst of circumstances – a near whiteout blizzard. While Addison heads cross-country, creating mayhem in his wake, Liza is picked up by ex-boxer Jay (Charlie Hunnam), en-route for a Thanksgiving homecoming with his parents, June (Sissy Spacek) and retired sheriff Chet (Kris Kristofferson). It’s there the siblings are reunited in a terse and thrilling showdown that pushes the bonds of family to the limit.
DEADFALL premieres on VOD November 2, 2012 and hits theaters on December 7, 2012.
