Disney has released the first trailer for THE BFG, the Steven Spielberg-directed adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl children's book, and although it doesn't reveal much and is really more of a teaser than a full trailer, it's still a great first look at the upcoming movie. The film stars The BRIDGE OF SPIES and THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL actor Mark Rylance as the titular giant, and also features the talents of Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Penelope Wilton, Adam Godley, Rebecca Hall and 10-year-old newcomer Ruby Barnhill.
"And that is where our story begins…"
Synopsis:
The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants—rather than the BFG—she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that the giants are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!
The BFG has always been my favorite Dahl tale, and I've been waiting years for a live-action, big screen take on the novel. It looks like Spielberg's adaptation will do the book justice, and I can't wait to see more from the film.
THE BFG is due out on July 1, 2016.
