I gotta tell you guys, I'm so pumped you finally get to see this. I saw this back at CinemaCon earlier this year and was just blown away. Director James Mangold tackling the 1966 Le Mans race that had the Ford Motor Company build a car to compete with the Italian powerhouse of Enzo Ferrari in the famed race with Christian Bale and Matt Damon in the lead roles? Get me to the starting line! This looks like an intense, thrilling and compelling drama that captures the spirit, adventure and competition in the racing world at that time with Mangold back in the biopic genre, which has served him well thus far. In a market chock full of superhero spectacle, smashing monsters and animated parades, it's great to have an old-school racing flick on deck to help cleanse the palate of the same ol' same ol'.
Here's the synopsis:
Academy Award-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in FORD v FERRARI, based on the remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles (Bale), who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.
FORD V FERRARI races into theaters on November 15, 2019.
