Man, forget sharknado, ain't nothing like the real thing!
The new trailer for the disaster pic INTO THE STORM starring Thorin Oakenshield Richard Armitage and Lori Grimes Sarah Wayne Callies showcases the real forces of nature at work with dizzying and horrifying reality (i.e. no man-eating sharks). It immediately reminds me of TWISTER, Jan De Bont's 1996 blockbuster that chronicled a bunch of stormchasers on the hunt for tornadoes, and that's not a bad thing. It's been a while since we've had a storm-themed disaster pic and while they can be pretty formulaic, it's still a fun formula to watch.
Take a look:
Here's the synopsis:
In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople, “Into the Storm” throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.
Having Armitage and Callies in this elevates it beyond a simple storm flick as both are very watchable stars, each deserving of breaking out of their former (and current) onscreen roles (Armitage as a dwarf, Callies as zombie food). Plus, did you see that last shot? Shiiiiiit. Maybe I'm just a sucker for some onscreen carnage (which isn't to detract from the horrible real-world results of such storms), but I'm sure I'll be game for a little change up of genres once we're into late summer. Plus, with FINAL DESTINATION 5 director, Steven Quale, at the helm, you can expect a pretty good grasp on the material, no?
INTO THE STORM sweeps into theaters on August 8, 2014.
