Director Jerusha Hess (spouse of NAPOLEON DYNAMITE director Jared Hess) debuted her light-hearted comedy AUSTENLAND at Sundance earlier this year and today we have a trailer for the offbeat romcom. The pic stars Keri Russell as a Jane Austen obsessed woman who goes to a "camp" for rabid fans of the late English author in the hopes of figuring out her life and possibly finding her "Mr. Darcy." Hess, who has co-written all of her husband's films to date, seems to be right at home with this material and with the innocent hotness of Russell in the lead and Flight of the Conchord's Bret McKenzie in tow, this looks like a fun little oddball romcom that won't take itself too seriously.
Take a gander:
Here's the synopsis:
Austenland is a romantic comedy about 30-something, single Jane Hayes, a seemingly normal young woman with a secret: her obsession with Mr. Darcy-as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice-is ruining her love life; no real man can compare. But when she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined
Yeah, yeah, we're all hardened badasses who only watch superheroes destroy shit, but I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who can appreciate something like this from time to time. If the trailer isn't enough, I've included a pic of Keri Russell and her abs. Russell has been tearing it up on FX's The Americans (which was renewed for a second season) and will next be seen in the currently filming DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.
AUSTENLAND goes to "camp" on August 16, 2013 in New York and L.A., with a wide release yet to be announced.
