We all want that glamorous taste of the high life: lavish dinners, gorgeous clothing, fast cars, big mansions and all the gold you can eat. But if that means putting up with a loved one’s crazy family all that awesome stuff may not be worth it. The first full trailer is here for CRAZY RICH ASIANS, a movie that finds a young woman coming to grips with her lover’s enormous wealth and enormously invasive mother, all while experiencing the most luxurious side of Singapore.

Here is the full synopsis:
The story follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life.
It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick’s own disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh) taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.
The movie has a big lineup, including Constance Wu (FRESH OFF THE BOAT), Gemma Chan (HUMANS), Lisa Lu (2012), and Awkwafina (OCEAN’S 8, NEIGHBORS 2), with Ken Jeong (THE HANGOVER) and Michelle Yeoh (STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON). Overall this looks like a nice little movie for fans of romantic/fish-out-of-water comedies. I haven’t read the book, but I know tons of people have, and between that and the late summer release, this could be a breakout comedy hit that takes us by surprise. If buying a ticket comes with a glass of champagne then I am definitely there.
CRAZY RICH ASIANS arrives August 17.
