Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox have created a new animated adventure called EPIC, with the voice talent of Colin Farrell, Beyonce Knowles, Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, and Johnny Knoxville. Directed by Chris Wedge (ROBOTS, ICE AGE) the film seems to be a mix of FERNGULLY and HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS.
Have a look:
The animation for this is pretty solid and it looks like a good candidate for 3D. The trailer doesn’t really give us much in terms of tone, however, mostly because they’re using the Snow Patrol song, The Lightning Strike, over the entire thing, which is kind of distracting, especially since the same song was used in the trailers for this years Navy SEAL war drama ACT OF VALOR. Kind of weird.
It does look interesting, but seeing/hearing the voice talent at work will give us all a better picture of what to anticipate. Where I used to be against anything that wasn’t Pixar, the animation from competing studios is pretty much up to par at this point, so it’s anyone’s game now. I welcome the onslaught as long as it’s good.
Here’s the synopsis:
EPIC is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours.
EPIC opens in 3D on May 24th, 2013.
