Come across anyone who managed to see ANOMALISA at this year's Telluride Film Festival, and you won't be able to get them to shut up about how tremendous a film Charlie Kaufman has made. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, other than the fact that your conversation will leave you wishing you could see the movie as soon as possible in order to hopefully be impacted as deeply as plenty of others.
Today Paramount gave us a taste of what everyone has been raving about, releasing the first trailer for ANOMALISA. Right off the bat, you'll be amazed with how incredible Kaufman's film looks on a visual level but what really has my attention is a story that may really cut through a lot of bullshit and connect with us on some high emotional level. I can't be the only one who is expecting tears to be shed and some stock to be taken of our lives individually as we witness this one, can I?
Michael Stone, husband, father and respected author of "How May I Help You Help Them?" is a man crippled by the mundanity of his life. On a business trip to Cincinnati, where he's scheduled to speak at a convention of customer service professionals, he checks into the Fregoli Hotel. There, he is amazed to discover a possible escape from his desperation in the form of an unassuming Akron baked goods sales rep, Lisa, who may or may not be the love of his life.
Overhype can always be a problem when walking into a movie like this, but call it a hunch… I get the distinct feeling we're going to be catching something special as the studio rolls it out late this year and into early 2016, so keep an eye out. This should keep it on your mind.
ANOMALISA hits select theatres on December 30, with a wider release expanding throughout January.
