Nick Hornby's novels have taken on a bit of a cult status in recent years, with the film adaptations gaining similar traction, with pics like HIGH FIDELITY, AN EDUCATION, ABOUT A BOY, and FEVER PITCH becoming niche favorites. Hornby's latest big-screen adaptation is A LONG WAY DOWN, which stars Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul, and Imogen Poots as four strangers who meet on a roof on New Year's Eve, forming an unlikely surrogate family from that point on. Directed by French filmmaker Pascal Chaumeil, the film is gearing up for its international release and today we have our first look at the full trailer.
Take a look:
It's a bit schmaltzy, but I think hidden underneath the thick layer of feel-good marketing there's a potentially solid emotional film in there. Pics like this can be a tough sell. The "dual-genre" nature of dramedy's is difficult in itself, as it's a bit of a movie identity crisis, but that doesn't mean it can't work. The cast is the big sell here. You've got James Bond, Jesse Pinkman, The United States of Tara, and that hot chick from DISTURBIA the FRIGHT NIGHT remake, plus Dr. Grant (Sam Neill) and a former Bond girl (Rosamund Pike), making for a very appealing mash-up of actors.
A LONG WAY DOWN is set for release in the UK on March 21, 2014. A U.S. release has yet to be announced.
