Director David Gordon Green is an odd, but compelling mix. He’s directed some hilarious comedy (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, Eastbound and Down) and moving drama’s (SNOW ANGELS, ALL THE REAL GIRLS), but hasn’t been consistent with either. Perhaps that’s not such a bad thing, but the point is he can be hit or miss on expectations. The director seems to have taken a step back from the high concept stuff with his latest film, PRINCE AVALANCHE, which stars Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch as an unlikely duo of roadworkers, stuck working together for the summer.
Today, we have the first teaser trailer for the film (along with the poster) and it plays well in line with the type of oddball sensibilities that typically populate his films. Rudd and Hirsch look to play well off one another in what will likely be a spirited, funny, and weird independent pic. As a fan of Green’s style, this looks like a fun time.

Here’s the synopsis:
An odd couple of sorts, meditative and stern Alvin (Rudd) and his girlfriend’s brother, Lance (Hirsch), dopey and insecure, leave the city behind to spend the summer in solitude repainting traffic lines down the center of a country highway ravaged by wildfire. As they sink into their job in the remarkable landscape, they learn more than they want to about each other and their own limitations. An unlikely friendship develops through humor and nasty exchanges, leading to surprising affection.
PRINCE AVALANCHE is set for release on August 9, 2013.
