Much like James Cameron with ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, Martin Scorsese has spent years developing THE IRISHMAN, and this year he will finally get to unveil the long-gestating project to audiences this year. The movie starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci has made headlines for its (very expensive) use of facial de-aging technology, and now with the first trailer, you can see what the team has been working on by checking out a De Niro with a few years shaved off.

Based on the book "I Heard You Paint Houses" by Charles Brandt, IRISHMAN follows the true story of former hitman Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran (De Niro), who worked for the mob and perhaps had a role in the famous disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino). By using the de-aging effects, the movie takes places over decades in Sheeran's life as he reflects on his time in the mob, and in the trailer, we get a taste of what that will look like towards the end, as a much younger De Niro comes on screen.
As far as a Scorsese movie goes, this trailer hits all the beats we know and love. There's a rich New York environment, bursts of violence, guys sitting around talking about shady business and more. It's all there! If you were hoping to get a big look at the de-aging tech that cost anywhere between $150-$200 million, though, then you are out of luck. Besides the glimpse at De Niro there's not a lot to analyze, so that may have to wait for future trailers or until the movie comes out.
THE IRISHMAN will get its world premiere at the New York Film Festival later this year before hitting Netflix this Fall.
