After bursting onto the scene with 2011's ATTACK THE BLOCK, audiences were eager to see which film writer/director Joe Cornish would tackle next. The director's name was brought up in regards to a variety of projects, including an adaptation of Neal Stephenson's SNOW CRASH and the spy-thriller SECTION 9, but neither project has gotten off the ground yet. Joe Cornish was even up to take over for J.J. Abrams on STAR TREK BEYOND before the gig went to Justin Lin.
Over the past year, Joe Cornish was finally able to move forward on his next project, a fantasy adventure film titled THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING, and 20th Century Fox has released our first official glimpse at the upcoming film in the form of the first poster..
THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING tells the story of Alex, a twelve-year-old British schoolboy whose everyday problems are dwarfed by his discovery of the mythical sword Excalibur. Now, with the most powerful sword in history in the hands of the most powerless schoolboy in Britain, an epic adventure begins as Alex and his friends must thwart a medieval villain named Morgana, who is hell-bent on destroying the world. Louis Serkis plays Alex, with Rebecca Ferguson (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT) playing Morgana and Patrick Stewart (LOGAN) stepping into the role of Merlin. With the reveal of this first poster, I'd imagine that we can start looking forward to a teaser trailer before too long.
THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING will hit theaters on March 1, 2019
