Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane screened the first footage of his “slacker Teddy Bear” movie TED at SXSW this week and managed to share a promo poster with those in attendance.
Take a pee break and check it out:
TED stars Mark Wahlberg as a Boston native who wishes for his childhood teddy bear to come to life. However, in a case of be-careful-what-you-wish-for, Whalberg is stuck with the teddy bear, who has grown up into adulthood with his “master” and become a pot-smoking, foul-mouthed slacker, which inhibits Whalberg from growing up and moving on with his adult life.
Sounds pretty fun, but man, you just never know when you mix CGI characters with live actors, even if they’re voiced by Seth MacFarlane. The last first-name-character movie didn’t fare so hot at the box office (PAUL…we get no love). The fact that TED is written and directed by MacFarlane is a plus and with cast members Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Joel McHale, Patrick Warburton, and Giovanni Ribisi it sounds like it could be a rollicking good time. Plus, there’s that R-rating, which could help MacFarlane push the limits he usually teeters on with Family Guy.
Here’s the synopsis:
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane brings his boundary-pushing brand of humor to the big screen for the first time as writer, director and voice star of TED. In the live action/CG-animated comedy, he tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since.
TED is going to snuggle up next to you and blow pot smoke in your face on July 13, 2012.
I didn’t feel like Photoshopping a pic of Wahlberg with a teddy bear, so here’s some Mila Kunis instead. You’re welcome.
