Updated: First poster and full trailer of Goosebumps with Jack Black

UPDATE: Sony has released the full trailer for GOOSEBUMPS. Check it out below.

Children of the 1990s can rejoice as one of their favorite book and television series is coming to the big screen and we now have a first look at the poster and a portion of the trailer. Starring Jack Black and based on R.L. Stine’s horror series for teens, GOOSEBUMPS looks to follow a more meta-style plot featuring all of the signature monsters and supernatural creations from the books.

The official poster debuted yesterday and now Jack Black has shared a glimpse of the trailer during a recent appearance on Good Morning America. While this doesn’t amount to more than a snippet of the trailer, it does give us a good idea at how the special effects will look in Rob Letterman‘s movie.

After moving into a small town, a teenage boy named Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) meets Hannah (Odeya Rush), his new neighbor. Hannah’s father, R. L. Stine (Jack Black), who writes the Goosebumps stories, keeps all the ghosts and monsters in the series locked up in his books. When Zach unintentionally releases the ghouls and the monsters from the storybooks, Zach, Hannah, and Stine team up in order to put the monsters back where they came from, before it’s too late.

Jack Black looks to be playing his role of Stine fairly straight here, but the movie looks more glossy and action-oriented than I expected. The GOOSEBUMPS television series was actually pretty damn scary for children’s programming while this movie just feels like something akin to NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM. But, with there being few live action kids movies worth watching and even fewer scary movies for kids, GOOSEBUMPS may be worth checking out.

GOOSEBUMPS hits theaters on October 16th.
