Quentin Tarantino’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD is both the director’s ode to old-school Hollywood and his attempt to play on the time period right when the Manson Family Murders brought the age of free love and simpler times to a screeching halt – especially in Hollywood. Aside from smart, quick dialogue we never know what to expect from a Tarantino movie, but now you can look at the first images from the new movie teasing a more colorful, seemingly care-free time in the age of Hollywood.
The images come from an exclusive preview in Vanity Fair, showing off the best looks yet at Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton, Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth, Al Pacino’s Marvin Schwarz and Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, the victim of mass murder at the hands of Charles Manson’s cult. The images show off the colorful side of 1969 Hollywood, like DiCaprio’s crooning and gun-slinging and Robbie’s ethereal spirit.

The story centers on DiCaprio and Pitt's characters as they set out on a quest to reinvent themselves in Hollywood, years after DiCaprio's Dalton has faded from the spotlight since the days of his famous show, "Bounty Law." Dalton's neighbor during this time is Robbie's Tate, who would soon be murdered by followers of Charles Manson, played by Damon Herriman. The movie is fleshed out by an insane ensemble cast, including Emile Hirsch, Bruce Dern, Dakota Fanning, Luke Perry, Scoot McNairy, Clifton Collins Jr., Lena Dunham, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant, James Marsden and so many more.
Tarantino spoke at CinemaCon last year, calling DiCaprio and Pitt the most "exciting star dynamic duo since Robert Redford and Paul Newman." He continued, sharing what he could about the plot and setting.
"It all is very hush-hush and top secret and under wraps. So, I can't really go into any big details of the story. But, what I can tell you is that Once Upon A Time In Hollywood takes place during the Hollywood era of 1969. It takes place at the height of the counterculture explosion. It takes place at the time of the hippie revolution and it takes place at the height of new Hollywood. And, during this summer, little by little, block by block, we will be transforming Los Angeles into the psychadelic era of Hollywood in 1969 to be prepared for 2019."
ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD hits theaters July 26.
