Update: New trailer! First official teaser poster for A Good Day To Die Hard arrives, plus a new image

UPDATE: That didn’t take long. Less than an hour after putting up the poster and image, we get a new trailer! How’s that for driving your point home? The trailer sees McClane’s journey to Moscow, a brief trip to the airport with his daughter, played by the lovely Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and plenty of explosions, punches, and shootouts to the tune of Beethoven.

Well, get your eye-rolling ready as there is a new poster for A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, which isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but the tagline is. For one, it’s not as clever as it thinks it is and two, it’s a very good indicator that we are going to get a PG-13 John McClane once again. Seeing as the last outing was the biggest moneymaker of the entire franchise, that’s almost a no-brainer at this point, but we can still hope, I suppose. Although I’d prefer to see the blood gushing splatters that John McTiernan so mastrfully gave us in the original, I would settle for some rousing action and at the very LEAST, an unedited Yippie-Ki-Yay catchphrase. I won’t hold my breath.

Also, a new image for the film has popped up, featuring both old and young McClane’s ready to unleash some firepower, along with their pal who looks to be cannon fodder. After the first film, I’m sure McClane understands the peril of handing firearms to unknown strangers, so perhaps he’s just playing it safe.

I want to remain hopeful as a longtime fan of the series. What I see happening is simply a shift in the type of DIE HARD we’re getting. The first three films (the first trilogy, if you will) gave us a hard-R action series with plenty of blood, profanity, and hijinks to keep the blood pumping. This next set of films (the “new” trilogy?) looks to cater to a new crowd, that of the PG-13 crowd (hiring a young male actor to accompany McClane), thereby improving box office and breaking into a new market. Is that a bad thing? I guess it depends on which demographic you fall in.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, directed by *sigh* John Moore and starring Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Cole Hauser, Yuliya Snigir, and Sebastian Koch is set to charm your heart on February 14, 2013.
