Ms. Marvel: First trailer introduces us to Marvel’s first Muslim superhero

The first trailer for Ms. Marvel has been released and the historic first look introduces us to Marvel’s first Muslim superhero as she’s prepared to make her live-action debut on her very own Disney+ series.

Kamala Kahn, a Pakistani American teenager from New Jersey, was introduced in 2013 by Marvel Comics. She idolizes Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, and by 2014, Kamala developed superhuman abilities of her own and was given her own solo series with the superhero moniker, Ms. Marvel. This made her the first Muslim superhero to headline a Marvel comic.

It’s now nine years later and newcomer Iman Vellani gets to embody the character and make history once again. The latest series from Marvel and Disney+ debuted its first trailer today and it revealed that Ms. Marvel will debut on the service on June 8, 2022.

Ms. Marvel will have a six-episode first season and it was executive produced by Bisha K. Ali, who also serves as a head writer on the series. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Meera Menon, Adil El Arbi, and Bilall Fallah, all served as directors on the show.

Iman Vellani was found for the titular role after an extensive search by Marvel Studios. She is joined by Saagar Shaikh as her older brother Aamir, Mohan Kapur, and Zenobia Shroff as her parents Muneeba and Yusuf, Matt Lintz as her best friend Bruno, and Aramis Knight as the vigilante known as Red Dagger.
