THE WITCH director Robert Eggers's fantasy horror flick THE LIGHTHOUSE starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson was shot on 35mm black-and-white stock using equipment from the 1920s and ’40s. Interesting, no? I think so. Anyhow, all film student fanboying aside, the black-and-white horror film is set to world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors’ Fortnight next month, and the festival just released the first image.
It showcases Dafoe and Pattinson's characters and it basically portrays the duo like how we all picture our great grandfathers looked back in the day. You can give the first look image a look-see above and below. While no real plot details have been revealed, A24 has described the movie as
a fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths.
Robert Eggers directs the new fantasy horror flick from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Max Eggers. Youree Henley, Lourenço Sant' Anna, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Jay Van Hoy produced. Jarin Blaschke is the movie's cinematographer and Louise Ford edited the flick. RT Features, New Regency, and Parts & Labor are the production companies behind the scenes.
Once again, the black-and-white horror film is set to world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors’ Fortnight next month and then A24 is set to release it into U.S. theaters sometime afterward. That said, no official release date has been announced. We will keep you guys up-to-date thought and pass along word as soon as we hear anything further.
