The Soviet set thriller CHILD 44 has been in production for a while now and some set photos have been seen but now we have our first official look at Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, and Noomi Rapace in the serial killer drama. CHILD 44 was set at one point to be helmed by Ridley Scott but is finally being realized by SAFE HOUSE director Daniel Espinoza with a great cast that also includes Paddy Considine, Joel Kinnaman, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
If the cast alone hasn’t sold you on this film, how about the fact it was written by Richard Price, author of CLOCKERS, THE COLOR OF MONEY, SEA OF LOVE, and episodes of THE WIRE. The combination of all of these talented folks makes for a cool movie.
Stalin’s Soviet Union is an official paradise, where citizens live free from crime and fear only one thing: the all-powerful state. Defending this system is idealistic security officer Leo Demidov, a war hero who believes in the iron fist of the law. But when a murderer starts to kill at will and Leo dares to investigate, the State’s obedient servant finds himself demoted and exiled. Now, with only his wife at his side, Leo must fight to uncover shocking truths about a killer-and a country where “crime” doesn’t exist.
In these images we get a look at the three stars of the film in their period attire. It struck me looking at the image of Hardy and Oldman that Bane is all up in Commissioner Gordon’s face. Hardy looks appropriately badass here despite the awkward military haircut. Either way, I am sold on this based on the cast. I cannot wait for the trailer.
CHILD 44 will hit theaters late in 2014.
