Grab your crucifix and don't forget to protect your neck because Netflix has given the green light to First Kill, a YA lesbian vampire drama with Emma Roberts set to executive produce through her Belletrist Productions studio.
Set up as a one-hour show, First Kill is based on the short story of the same name by Victoria "V.E." Schwab. The story was first published as part of the Imprint story collection "Vampire Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite" by Natalie C. Parker and Zoraida Córdova, back in September. The upcoming series was created, written, and executive produced by Schwab, with Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher, Empire) co-writing in addition to serving as showrunner.
In First Kill, when it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.
Oh wow, my wife is totally going to want to sink her fangs into this one. She's a sucker for supernatural romance stories, especially of the vampire variety. Roberts is obviously no stranger to horror after starring on shows like Scream Queens and American Horror Story, and just recently, the screen adaptation of Vera Brogol's Anya's Ghost – in which Roberts stars as Emily – entered its pre-production stage. As someone who simply cannot get enough of the supernatural in his life, I'm very much looking forward to seeing what Roberts can bring to Netflix with her First Kill project. Bring it on!
