A character on AMC's The Walking Dead for several seasons, Morgan Jones (Lennie James) has now taken a stroll down to Texas and is hanging out with the characters (what's left of them) of The Walking Dead's companion series Fear the Walking Dead. When Fear returns to AMC airwaves later this year, Morgan will be crossing paths with a familiar scarred face – as it turns out, the formerly villainous Dwight (Austin Amelio) will coincidentally be passing through Texas after being exiled from the Washington D.C. area at the end of The Walking Dead season 8.
AMC has released a batch of images from Fear the Walking Dead's upcoming fifth season, and among them is a shot of Dwight.
Also featured in the images are Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey), looking badass splattered with blood and standing beside Morgan; Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), with Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) providing back-up; season 4 additions John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) and June (Jenna Elfman); and a cool-looking zombie pictured against a backdrop of flame and smoke.
TV Guide notes that most of these images are from the first episode of season 5. The shot of John Dorie and June is from the second episode, and the shot of Dwight is from episode 3. So we might have to wait a few episodes into the season before Dwight shows up.
While I'm interested in seeing Dwight again, it does seem strange to me that he's going to end up in the same place as Morgan, which happens to be the same place the Fear the Walking Dead characters are living in. I'll deal with it, just as long as they don't overshadow the show's original characters too much.
I keep saying this, but I feel it's important that Fear keeps its focus on Alicia, Victor Strand, Luciana (Danay Garcia), and – since he'll be appearing at some point during the season – Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades).
AMC hasn't yet announced a premiere date for Fear the Walking Dead season 5.
