Back in September of last year we told you that Bryan Cranston was set to play blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in a biopic TRUMBO directed by Jay Roach (RECOUNT, MEET THE PARENTS). We finally have our first image from the movie and it couldn’t be more perfect. For history buffs, Trumbo had famously refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee and was subsequently blacklisted and sentenced to an 11-month stay in prison. Like any passionate writer he kept at it under pseudonyms; he even won two Academy Awards in the process for ROMAN HOLIDAY and THE BRAVE ONE.
Roach’s film follows Trumbo’s fight against the blacklisting and his battles with gossip columnist Hedda Hopper who will be played by Helen Mirren. The image below shows off Cranston with the iconic glasses and cigarette.
Bleecker Street is releasing TRUMBO in the US and should hit sometime next year, possibly in time for some award recognition. The movie aslso stars Elle Fanning, Diane Laney, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Louis C.K., and Alan Tudyk.
