Matt Groening has wonderfully satirized both present-day family life in THE SIMPSONS and the world of tomorrow with FUTURAMA, and now its time for him to take a stab at medieval times with DISENCHANTMENT. The adult animated series over at Netflix will take us to a world of alcoholic princesses and perverted fairies, and though we don’t see much of that in the first teaser for the show, we do get a glimpse at the crumbling world of Dreamland.
Here’s the synopsis:
From the mind of Matt Groening, comes the 10-episode adult animated comedy fantasy series, Disenchantment, launching on Netflix, August 17, 2018. InDisenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.
As I said, it’s not a very in-depth look, but it certainly exudes the Groening style we’ve come to love over the decades, sporting a bolder animation style (at least in terms of the environment). We will indeed see much more of this new world in the coming month or so, but this is a good taste of the new animated world, which doubles as what GAME OF THRONES would look like as an animated comedy.
DISENCHANTMENT hits Netflix August 17.
