Can we just put the comparisons to SHORT CIRCUIT to rest now? Other than the creation of a robot that seemingly has human emotions, CHAPPIE looks like a completely different kind of film, much closer in tone to Blomkamp's DISTRICT 9 than the family friendly flick with Johnny 5. Need more proof? Check out the first clips from CHAPPIE below.
Yes, we're all still excited from last nights announcement that Blomkamp will be helming a new film in the ALIEN franchise, but I'm equally as excited that we'll be seeing the latest film from Blomkamp in a few short weeks. I've got March 6th circled on my calendar because I plan on being first in line at my local theater to check CHAPPIE out.
This first clip features a robot raid and stars Ninja, one half of the South African hip hop duo Die Antwoord. It certainly looks intense and I can't wait to see more from this film! The second clip features Sigourney Weaver, Hugh Jackman, and Jackman's crazy hair as they discuss destroying Chappie.
CHAPPIE stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, and hip hop duo Die Antwoord.
The synopsis:
Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.
This one hits theaters on March 6th.
