A new clip for the Danny Boyle directed TRANCE has surfaced today, giving us a look at an art show heist featuring star James McAvoy pulling a THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR style swipe of a painting. The crazy-looking film also stars Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel, who act as pawns in the game of cracking McAvoy’s art auctioneer character’s mind. The clip is interesting enough, if even a little droll for a Danny Boyle film, but gives a good feel for the overall style and pace of the film.
Take a look:
Here’s the synopsis:
A fine art auctioneer mixed up with a gang joins forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting. As boundaries between desire, reality and hypnotic suggestion begin to blur the stakes rise faster than anyone could have anticipated
TRANCE looks and feels more like a David Cronenberg film than a Danny Boyle one and maybe that’s the point. In truth, both directors have a surrealistic style that paves the way for some compelling visuals (think TRAINSPOTTING). I love me some Rosario Dawson and McAvoy has become a mostly reliable chap with a lot of intensity (think WANTED or ATONEMENT), so this should be a nice departure before he’s back to the comic-book world of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
TRANCE is set to open on March 27, 2013.
