UPDATE:WB snuck in a lovely teaser for the new trailer, which we have all come to know and love so much. Check it out below the clip.
Director Bryan Singer‘s oft-delayed JACK THE GIANT SLAYER is finally making its way to theaters and today we have the first clip from the film, which shows how a lovely stroll can turn into a race for your life when giants pop out of the trees and chase you down, throwing windmills and shit. Starring WARM BODIES lead Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Warwick Davis, and Eleanor Tomlinson, the film is another entry in the updated fairytale genre, a la the recent HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS and SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, both of which have had decent success.
Take a gander:
And here’s a short teaser for the new trailer, which is set to debut on Monday, February 11th:
I’m not blown away by the looks of this one at all. I’ll be happy to eat crow if it turns out to be something special, but I get the feeling that it will probably be a mildly amusing romp, which is fine for some films, but I expect a bit more from Singer. The giants remind me of Davy Jones’ crew from PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END, and I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. I’ll always champion McGregor (and would be more likely to see this if he were the lead) and it’s nice to see Hoult enjoying some success, but something just doesn’t click for me with this. What do you guys think? Is this a shoe-in for a theater viewing or are you still on the fence?
JACK THE GIANT SLAYER climbs the theatrical beanstalk on March 1, 2013.
Eleanor Tomlinson is certainly an asset to the film, though, wouldn’t you say?
