The first clip from KILLING THEM SOFTLY, the Brad Pitt headlining crime flick from director Andrew Dominik (THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES) has popped up online, just in time for it’s impending premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The clip features Sam Shepard, Slaine, and Ray Liotta in a nice little scuffle at a trailer park, which results in a Liotta getting roughed up and spewing a hefty amount of F-bombs. If anything, this clip showcases what we can expect, tonally, from the film, which has a very GOODFELLAS-ish vibe to it. Of course that could just be Liotta sounding like Henry Hill again, so who knows? Either way, I’m pretty stoked to see this one.
Get beat down:
Here’s the synopsis for the film, which was previously called COGAN’S TRADE:
Jackie Cogan (Pitt) is an enforcer, and when the mob’s rules get broken, Cogan is called in to take care of business. This time a high-stakes card game has been held up by an unknown gang of thugs. Calculating, ruthless, businesslike, and with a shrewd sense of other people’s weaknesses, Cogan plies his trade, moving among a variety of hoods, hangers-on, and big-timers, tracking those responsible, and returning “law and order” to the lawless Boston underworld.
No release date is set, but expect one soon after the film premieres this month at Cannes.
