Fans of The CW superhero series The Flash know that the series hinges on the identity of the man who killed Barry Allen’s mother when he was a child. It is because of her death that Allen has become the man he is. Over the last few episodes, we have learned the identity of the yellow speedster referred to as Reverse Flash. Unlike in DC Comics, the identity of Reverse Flash is that of a character original to the television series: Dr. Harrison Wells.
On the next episode of The Flash, we will finally see Tom Cavanaugh don the Reverse Flash costume and we now have the first look at it in the form of a poster for the show. The costume has been seen clearly in Wells’ secret room at the S.T.A.R. Labs facility but this is the first glimpse of the man in the suit.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cavanaugh said he signed up for The Flash specifically to play the time-traveling villain who may turn out to be more of an anti-hero.
“In comic books, when you start talking about time travel — if anybody has followed The Flash, then they know Reverse-Flash and The Flash are not just doing this right now in the present day,” Cavanagh said in January. “They have a long history and there’s nothing that we’re not going to pursue when we try to tell the story. We’re trying to tell all of it.”
The Flash has proven to be a very fun show which it owes to being much less dour than the show it originated from, Arrow. Both shows have proven to be some of the best small screen comic book adaptations and there seems to be more on the horizon with a second spin-off set to star Brandon Routh and Wentworth Miller. Hopefully we will see this universe continue to grow.
The Flash episode “Out of Time” premieres on The CW on March 17th.
