Firestarter: Gloria Reuben has a lead role in Blumhouse’s Stephen King movie

Blumhouse is currently in production on a new adaptation of the Stephen King novel Firestarter, and they recently unveiled a first look image of Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the title character. (That image can be seen below.) Now it has been announced that Gloria Reuben has a lead role in the film – but details on her character have not been revealed. Reuben took to social media to confirm that she is indeed working on Firestarter.

Written by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), the film is being directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil). It tells the story of

a young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.

Zac Efron plays the fire-starting girl's father, while Michael Greyeyes is the assassin Rainbird.

Reuben is best known for playing the role of Jeanie Boulet on over 100 episodes of ER. More recently, she has been on multiple episodes of City on a Hill, Mr. Robot, Blindspot, and Cloak & Dagger.

This new version of Firestarter is coming to us from Blumhouse, Weed Road Productions, and Universal Pictures. Blumhouse founder Jason Blum is producing with Akiva Goldsman. Martha De Laurentiis serves as executive producer alongside Teems.

Copies of King's novel can be purchased at THIS LINK. The novel was previously turned into a film directed by Mark L. Lester and starring David Keith, Drew Barrymore, Martin Sheen, George C. Scott, Louise Fletcher, Heather Locklear, and Art Carney in 1984. Copies of Lester's Firestarter can be purchased HERE.
