Milla Jovovich may have filmed the last scene she'll ever play as RESIDENT EVIL film franchise heroine Alice. Throughout the production of RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER, the sixth and seemingly last entry in the series (but when are "final" movies ever final in the horror genre?), the actress has been posting updates from the set on her Instagram account. For example, a few days ago she posted a shot of an impressive set of ruins built in Belhar, South Africa. Her latest update is a selfie as she sits on the sidelines of the set in between takes, wearing the makeup of a lightly battered Alice. The image is accompanied by the following caption:
Last day shooting #residentevilthefinalchapter!! It's so exciting to finish and I really know you guys are gonna flip when you see it!
Despite the exclamation points, these words likely cause a melancholy twinge for fans of the RESIDENT EVIL films and the character as Alice. If this truly is "the final chapter" and Jovovich's last time playing Alice, we'll be witnessing the end of an era when RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER reaches theatres on January 17, 2017.
Picking up immediately after the events in “Resident Evil: Retribution,” “Final Chapter” finds humanity is on its last legs and Alice (Jovovich) must return to Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is preparing for a final strike against the survivors of the apocalypse.
In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.
Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, THE FINAL CHAPTER also stars Ali Larter, Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy, Fraser James, Rola, and Lee Joon-gi.
