Last month we shared the news that London's Film4 FrightFest had announced their opening film would be THE DEAD 2: INDIA and the fest would be closing with Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado’s extraordinary revenge thriller BIG BAD WOLVES, and just last week we shared a list of titles that were also added to the slate of genre fun that the festival had planned for attendees. Today we have some cool new stills from three films that are set to be a part of the UK's biggest genre festivals line-up: ODD THOMAS, THE CONSPIRACY and WITHER.
First up are some new images from Stephen Sommers adaptation of the Dean Koontz best-seller ODD THOMAS, which stars Anton Yelchin, Addison Timlin, Willem Dafoe, Nico Tortorella, Patton Oswalt and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. We're still awaiting word as to when this film will get a proper release, but it's good to hear that it is finding an audience at festivals.
“The story centers on a short-order cook named Odd Thomas (played by Anton Yelchin) who can commune with the dead, a secret only his girlfriend (Addison Timlin) and the local police (Willem Dafoe) chief know. The young man can also spot malevolent forces called bodachs, who feed on pain and portent imminent death. When Odd sees them in spades surrounding a stranger, he finds himself in a race against time to avert a catastrophe.“
Next up we have three new stills from Christopher MacBride's horror-infused political thriller THE CONSPIRACY, which was written and directed by MacBride and produced by Lee Kim. Just yesterday we shared a new one-sheet for the film with you, following the news that XLrator would be releasing the film on various VOD platforms August 8 with a limited theatrical run on August 23 in the US.
Inspired by actual conspiracy theories, the film has the following synopsis:
“When two young filmmakers (played by Aaron Poole and Jim Gilbert) select a crazed conspiracy theorist as the subject of their new movie, they have no idea the terrifying peril they will put themselves in. When the man disappears without a trace, the filmmakers begin an obsessive quest to uncover the truth that will lead them to an ancient and dangerous secret society. A meticulously researched thriller based on real conspiracy theories, THE CONSPIRACY blurs the line between fact and fiction, news and propaganda.”
And, finally, we have three new images from Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund's EVIL DEAD-inspired Swedish horror WITHER, which was recently picked up for distribution by Artsploitation Films. The film…
begins with a group of young friends who head off to a secluded cabin in the woods only to have their fun weekend turn to a bloody mess when they disturb the resting place of an evil creature.”
Film4 FrightFest, the UK’s biggest genre film festival, runs from Thursday 22 August to Monday 26 August at the Empire Cinema, Leicester Square. Festival and day passes went on sale last week. Tickets for individual films are on sale from 27 July.
