A collaboration between Stephen King and his son Joe Hill, the novella THROTTLE is something I have been meaning to get around to reading for a long time now. I read anything King writes anyway, eventually, but this one is especially appealing to me because it was inspired by the Richard Matheson story DUEL, which also served as the basis for a really cool movie directed by Steven Spielberg back in 1971. Now some news is pushing me to finally read THROTTLE: a feature film adaptation of the story is in the works for the HBO Max streaming service.
Leigh Dana Jackson is writing the screenplay for the THROTTLE movie, which David S. Goyer and Keith Levine will be producing through their company Phantom Four.
THROTTLE centers on
a father and son led biker gang who get terrorized by a big rig truck on an isolated stretch of the American desert.
That sounds like something I'm going to really enjoy watching play out on the screen.
The novella was first published in HE IS LEGEND, an anthology that was put together to honor Matheson. An audiobook titled ROAD RAGE then featured both THROTTLE and DUEL. IDW published a comic book adaptation of THROTTLE back in 2012. THROTTLE is also included in the Joe Hill story collection FULL THROTTLE, and you can pick up a copy of that on Amazon.
