THE SHAPE OF WATER is promising to be a fantastical tale about the beauty of unconventional love and how hard you may have to fight to preserve it. Earlier trailers have been on the tame side, but the new red band trailer demonstrates just how hard Sally Hawkins, a lowly cleaning woman, will have to fight against a ferocious Michael Shannon, her boss who will stop at nothing to figure out what’s going on with her and an experimental, amphibious creature. Watch and be amazed above!
The movie premiered at TIFF last weekend and was met with rousing approval (read Chris Bumbray's 10/10 review here!). Critics are touting it as Guillermo del Toro’s best work yet and as a guaranteed awards contender with Hawkins a shoo-in for a Best Actress nomination. The trailers have been gorgeous, and with this new one, we see the darker, sometimes funnier, side of the flick, as well as a full glimpse at the creature. Hopefully, the hype out of TIFF isn't just bluster, and the movie is just as magical as it looks. It's certainly as vulgar as I like.
THE SHAPE OF WATER hits theaters December 8.
