Move over Cumberbatch and Freeman, and beat it Downey Jr. and Law, because Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are here to take the crown as the ultimate pairing of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. The duo is returning to the big screen this Christmas, and before we see a trailer of the two solving mysteries the first image has dropped of Reilly as the trusty sidekick to Ferrell’s master sleuth.

EW released the image as part of their fall movie issue, and you can see Ferrell is sporting the classic Holmes look with his fancy hat, pipe, and scarf. Reilly looks dapper as Watson too, and together they will work comedic genius while solving a grand ol' mystery – all while looking ever so charming doing it.
The movie was written and directed by Etan Cohen (GET HARD, TROPIC THUNDER) and has an all-star cast including Lauren Lapkus, Rob Brydon, Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Ralph Fiennes (as Moriarty), and Hugh Laurie (as Mycroft Holmes).

Ferrell and Reilly have proven a tremendous comedy duo, doing expert work in movies like TALLADEGA NIGHTS and STEP BROTHERS. This will mark their very welcome reunion, unless, of course, you count the ghost of Stonewall Jackson (Reilly) sucking out Ron Burgandy’s (Ferrell) soul in ANCHORMAN 2. Reilly may be one-half of two other duos in upcoming period movies (STAN & OLLIE, THE SISTERS BROTHERS), but the magic he can work with Ferrell make this the one to catch.
HOLMES AND WATSON arrives December 21.
