Neon is climbing into the passenger seat of Michael Mann’s Ferrari, a new film from the celebrated director starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz. Ferrari looks to premiere at the Venice Film Festival at the end of August, with Neon acquiring the rights in North America in a competitive situation. According to Deadline, Ferrari is racing into theaters on Christmas Day 2023. STX Entertainment, who helped get the film onto the pavement, is actively involved with all the Neon negotiations (which are still being determined as of this posting). STX set up and provided most of the financing to produce the movie. With Robert Simonds, Sam Brown, and Noah Fogelson executive producing, Ferrari will be distributed internationally through STX Entertainment and its partners.
“Michael Mann, one of the most innovative and influential filmmakers in American cinema, was moved by the power of this intensely dramatic story to persist for years to bring it to the big screen,” said Neon CEO and founder Tom Quinn. “Ferrari reaffirms Neon’s continued commitment to supporting visionary auteurs who push the boundaries of cinema. Working with Michael Mann on Ferrari is a dream come true for Neon.”
Getting behind the wheel for Ferrari is Adam Driver (Marriage Story, 65) as Enzo Ferrari, with Penélope Cruz (Vanilla Sky, Bandidas) sitting shotgun as Laura Ferrari. Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars, Adrift) plays Lina Lardi, Jack O’Connell (Unbroken, Starred Up) plays Peter Collins, Sarah Gadon (Dracula Untold, A Royal Night Out) plays Linda Christian, Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted, Made of Honor) plays Piero Taruffi, and Gabriel Leone (Eduardo and Monica, Os Dias Eram Assim) plays Alfonso De Portago.
The plot revolves around a troubled time in the racer’s life in the summer of 1957, with the threat of bankruptcy looming over the Ferrari company. On top of that, the turbulent couple is mourning their one son, as they’re negligent of their other. Through this crisis, Enzo Ferrari decides to race in the great Mille Miglia, which is 1,000 miles across the country of Italy.
Michael Mann directs from a script by Troy Kennedy Martin based on a book by Brock Yates. Mann produces through his Moto Pictures studio alongside P.J. van Sandwijk and John Lesher. Marie Savare, John Friedberg, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, and Gareth West also produce.
Ferrari joins Neon’s library of outstanding films, including Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite, Julia Ducournau’s Titane, Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness, and more. With a fascinating story to share, Mann’s Ferrari could depict a side of the story we’ve never seen. Are you looking forward to this release? Let us know in the comments.
