Felicity Huffman returning to TV in baseball comedy at ABC

Felicity Huffman is returning to acting and this will be her first gig following that ever so messy fraud case in regards to the college admission scandal. Huffman is attached to star in a single-camera comedy that has landed a big pilot production commitment over at ABC.

The untitled-comedy is written by Becky Hartman Edwards and it is inspired by Susan Savage, the real-life owner of the Triple-A baseball team the Sacramento River Cats. The comedy is set to co-star THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON'S Zack Gottsagen and it will be Huffman's first project since the 2019 college admission scandal.

Despite the controversy Huffman's involvement in the scandal, the actress did make an impression by fully admitting her involvement and completing her short prison without much of a fuss. Huffman never really seemed to make excuses for her actions, unlike Aunt Becky herself, Lori Loughlin, who seemed to fight the charges until she no longer could. Loughlin is now serving her sentence and is expected to be released sometime around Christmas. Given how Huffman handled the situation, the Emmy-winning, and Oscar-nominated actress has been heavily courted for TV series and pilots since her prison term was completed, according to "Deadline."

Aaron Kaplan, whose Kapital Entertainment is behind the baseball project, approached Huffman with the idea about a series inspired by Savage and Huffman really responded to the material. The project attracted multiple offers but it ultimately landed at ABC.  This is how the network describes the series:

"A funny, surprising and occasionally heartbreaking half-hour about love, loss, family and Triple-A baseball, the project stars Huffman as the unlikely owner of a minor-league baseball team. After suddenly losing her husband and inheriting his beloved team, she is forced to navigate her new normal with the help of her dysfunctional family, including her oldest son (Gottsagen), a baseball devotee with Down syndrome, her work family and the Sacramento community at large. This is the story of a woman navigating grief, local politics and the business of sports and learning not just to adjust, but to thrive."

Huffman has a long and respectable run over at ABC. All three TV series that she has been lead of have been on that particular network and they have all been well-received critically. Comedy Sports Night was the first and it was followed by the long-running dramedy Desperate Housewives and she was last seen on the network on the anthology series American Crime. All three of her roles on these series earned Huffman major award nominations and she won an Emmy for her role on Desperate Housewives. Huffman was last seen in Ava Duvernay's award-winning Netflix limited series When They See Us.
