Six years after directing a remake of the horror classic THE EVIL DEAD, Fede Alvarez may be producing a sequel to another one of the genre's all-time greatest films, Tobe Hooper's THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.
Our friends over at Bloody-Disgusting are hearing that Alvarez is teaming with the original film's co-writer Kim Henkel to produce a new entry in the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE franchise for Legendary Entertainment/Legendary Pictures. They note that Alvarez would be producing the film but not directing it.
This project would be separate from the CHAINSAW films that were recently made by Millenium Films, TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D and LEATHERFACE. However, B-D hears that it could be taking the same approach to the material that TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D did, as Alvarez and Henkel are hoping to make this a direct sequel to the 1974 TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.
I'm a huge fan of CHAINSAW and thought Alvarez did a great job with EVIL DEAD 2013 (and his second feature, DON'T BREATHE), so I'm excited to hear he is getting involved with the series. I would be even more excited if he decided to direct the film himself.
