Fear the Walking Dead fever hasn't risen to quite the same pitch as its parent show The Walking Dead, but that hasn't stopped it from scooping up viewers by the bucketful, becoming the #7 show on television with its season 2 premiere last Sunday. Following its runaway success, AMC has already renewed the zombie spinoff series for a third season, to consist of 16 episodes that will broadcast in 2017.
As the seasons expand, if they play their cards right, AMC might have a zombie show running every week until the end of time.
Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark and English teacher Travis Manawa have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 airs on Sundays at 9PM on AMC. Dougray Scott and Daniel Zovatto have joined a cast that includes Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Lorenzo James Henrie, Ruben Blades, Mercedes Mason, and Colman Domingo.
