Fear the Walking Dead is already taking over the world. Shattering cable records, the premiere of the Walking Dead spin-off became the number one rated cable series launch with 10.1 million viewers. The show, set in LA, was a hit among adults aged 18-49, who formed 6.3 million of the audience. That's not unexpected, considering that kids aren't exactly in the demographic for the show. Where the real story is here is the people over 50 who are watching it. Who are they? If you find any of them, let me know. I want to talk to them.
I don't even know how these numbers are technically possible. That rating seems almost higher than the amount of people who are watching The Walking Dead, which one would assume to be the entire audience pool for this spin-off. Where are these people coming from? I smell voodoo.
Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.
Fear the Walking Dead premiered yesterday, August 23, 2015, and will be running for a 6 episode first season every Sunday on AMC.
