Fear Street starts shooting this month

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

One of the top flicks I'm looking forward to is the upcoming three-film adaptation of GOOSEBUMPS author R.L. Stine's FEAR STREET. And today we have word that production is slated to begin this month in Atlanta. Not only that but the movie(s) have added another actor to the mix in the form of Benjamin Flores, Jr. (see above) who will play the role of Josh, described as "a bit of a loner, smart, kind and resourceful, who prefers internet chat rooms to high school and is obsessed with conspiracy theories."

Flores, Jr. joins the recently announced up-and-coming actors Olivia Welch and Kiana Madeira in the movies. Madeira and Welch will be playing a couple of gay teenagers, and each will be playing two different characters, one in the mid-’90s, and one in the 1600s. No word on if Flores, Jr. has roles in all three films as well, but here's a quick plot synopsis for the three movies:

FEAR STREET Movie #1:

In 1994, in the aftermath of a brutal tragedy in Shadyside, Ohio, a group of teens discovers that a series of horrifying events that have plagued their town over many years might not be random and that they may be the next victims.

FEAR STREET Movie #2:

In 1978, Camp Nightwing is divided by the campers and counselors who hail from the of prosperous town of Sunnyvale and the campers and maintenance staffers from the downtrodden town of Shadyside, but when horrors from their towns shared history come alive, they must band together to solve a terrifying mystery before it’s too late.

FEAR STREET Movie #3:

In 1666, a colonial town is gripped by a hysterical witch-hunt that has deadly consequences for centuries to come, and it’s up to teenagers in 1994 to try and finally put an end to their town’s curse, before it’s too late.

Flores, Jr, is best known for roles in such blockbusters as Tim Story's RIDE ALONG starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, and Michael Bay's fifth entry in the TRANSFORMERS series TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT. On top of those roles, Flores, Jr. can next be seen in Netflix and director McG's comedy RIM OF THE WORLD, which hits in May.

FEAR STREET will be a trilogy and the individual movies are set to eventually be released one after the other. What that means exactly has yet to be seen. Leigh Janiak (HONEYMOON) will direct the first and third flicks and Alex Ross Perry (HER SMELL) will direct the middle movie. Janiak oversaw a writer’s room for the trilogy – which is said to have included Kate Trefry (STRANGER THINGS) – and will ultimately be among the writers credited. Chernin Entertainment will produce the trilogy and 20th Century Fox exec Jason Young will oversee on behalf of the studio.

We'll let you know when we hear more. Are you excited about this FEAR STREET trilogy? Let us know below!
