If you're like me and you grew up in the nineties, you'll have fond memories of Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer's FATHER OF THE BRIDE and its sequel, FATHER OF THE BRIDE PART II. In these films, Steve Martin played family patriarch George Banks, who suffers a major meltdown in the first movie when his daughter, Annie (Kimberly Williams) announces she's getting married. In the sequel, Annie has a kid but, surprise so does George when his beloved wife, Nina (Diane Keaton), also gets pregnant.
These were cute movies, and now, in a very welcome surprise, Netflix is announcing that the whole cast, including Martin, Keaton, Williams, the much-in-demand Kieran Culkin (who played Matty) and Martin Short (as the wacky wedding planner Franck) are coming back for a mini-sequel called FATHER OF THE BRIDE PART 3 (ISH) which is set to debut on Netflix YouTube and Facebook on Friday, September 25 at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET.
You can watch the teaser above, and Nancy Meyers both wrote and directed the mini-sequel, which benefits World Central Kitchen, which is working to provide meals for kids and families impacted by COVID-19. Additional information can be found on their website.
It's interesting to see this turn up on Netflix given that the films were produced by Touchstone Pictures, an affiliate of Disney, but a good cause is a good cause, so perhaps they were generous with the rights.
