Avatar: The Way of Water determined to hammer home the theme of family more than the famous Vin Diesel franchise, but the epic street racing, globe-trotting, action saga is set to make its conclusion in 2023 with Fast X. Vin Diesel has posted a picture via his official Instagram with a behind-the-scenes photo of him and co-star, Jordana Brewster, who plays his sister in the franchise. In the caption for the photo, Diesel teases that we are less than two months away from the release of the first trailer for Fast X.
In his Instagram post, the ever-sensitive and sentimental Diesel captioned this tender picture with, “On set photo… brother sister. Less than 2 months away from the FastX trailer launch!!! #Toretto.” The picture features an intimate moment with Brewster embracing Diesel in a big hug. The final movie comes at the end of a ten-movie run, not including the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, and is said to be split into two parts.
The movie will be including the returning cast of the family, which features both Diesel and Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, and Nathalie Emmanuel. Charlize Theron returns as the hacker villain, Cipher, as well as a new addition to the cast of rogues in the series with Jason Momoa boasting that he’s never got to play this quirky a character before.
The saga of the making of this final movie has been an interesting one. At one point, Diesel reached out to his former co-star and current not-so-friendly rival, Dwayne Johnson, in a bid to return to the franchise for the finale. Johnson, who, at the time, was only committed to returning to Hobbs & Shaw, had laughed it off but also politely declined. Then, just days later, former director and franchise re-inventor Justin Lin decided to step down, and the production would shut down for a short time.
The newest director is a protégé of Luc Besson, French director Louis Leterrier. Leterrier has ample experience with car stunts due to his history directing the first two Transporter movies. He has also previously worked with Universal with the big-budget Marvel co-production, The Incredible Hulk. There are a lot of rumors and theories going around. Ones that range from Gal Gadot returning to a Paul Walker CGI cameo.
Fast X is slated for May 19.
