Fast Times at Ridgemont High table read gets all-star cast led by Sean Penn

Sean Penn will virtually return to one of his most famous movies and he's getting help from a lot of famous friends. The actor will lead a FAST TIME AT RIDGEMONT HIGH virtual table reading for charity and an all-star cast will be there remotely to back him up.

The virtual table read will take place on August 20, 2020, and it was put together by comedian Dane Cook to benefit Penn's relief non-profit organization CORE. Joining Cook and Penn will be Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey, Morgan Freeman, Henry Golding, Shia LaBeouf, and a few more names that have yet to be announced. 

If you're expecting Sean Penn to be taking on Spicoli from the iconic 1980s movie, you might be a bit disappointed. The actor does note that he's "very confident in the new guy" so it seems that one of the other actors will be stepping into the role. At this time it's also unclear which actors will be taking on different roles from the movie. It reportedly will be revealed for the first time during the read. 

The reading comes on the 38th anniversary of the teen comedy which was helmed by director Amy Heckerling. The director said "I'm honored that so many talented, wonderful people are willing to get together to celebrate our movie, and to create their own special version of it. I'm a huge fan of Sean. He has such a big heart and I fully support CORE and of his causes."

Cameron Crowe, who wrote the film, and Heckerling will be making a special introduction for the table read and Crowe had this to say about the upcoming event:

"Sean brought magic to us on day one, and he is still bringing that magic to the world. We are so excited to be a part of this 2020 take on Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Thank you to this cast, and to Sean, for always honoring the best things in life, love, and creativity. It is, as a great man once said, totally awesome."

At the end of the day, this is all about Penn's dedication to CORE, which is helping provide better testing and more testing communities that need it the most during this public health crisis. In addition to CORE, the table read will also benefit REFORM ALLIANCE. Penn had this to say about doing this event for a good cause:

"On behalf of our dedicated team at CORE, I'm so appreciative of the support Dane has given and continues to give to our work. I'm always game for a giggle. So, to gather remotely for a night of laughs with so many talented folks while providing CORE with much-needed resources to continue our vital work, then consider us fully onboard to play!"

The FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH event will take place on August 20, 2020, at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT on CORE's official Facebook page and TikTok.
