Fast & Furious: Ludacris hopes the franchise lives on forever with spinoffs

After more than twenty years, the Fast & Furious franchise will conclude with Fast X, the upcoming two-part finale. However, if you think you’ll be seeing the last of physics-defying stunts and outrageous car chases, I wouldn’t count on it. We’ve already seen the first Fast & Furious spinoff with Hobbs & Shaw, and there are almost certainly more spinoffs down the road.

Ludacris has played Tej Parker in the Fast & Furious franchise since the first sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and during an interview with Fatherly, he believes that the series will continue to reinvent itself and hopefully… live on forever.

All great things come to an end. We’re shooting Fast 10 now, and that is the final chapter. But that doesn’t mean it’s gone forever, right? Look at Jurassic Park. That ended. But they reinvigorated it in another way. So I hope the Fast franchise will live on forever. Who knows, it might be our children who continue it, someday.

Who knows, indeed. Shortly after production began on Fast X, director Justin Lin stepped down reportedly due to creative differences. “With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of FAST X, while remaining with the project as a producer,” Justin Lin said in a statement. “Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases. On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history. I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew and studio for their support, and for welcoming me into the FAST family.” Justin Lin was quickly replaced by Louis Leterrier, the director behind The Transporter, Clash of the Titans, and Now You See Me.

Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Sung Kang will be starring in Fast X, with Charlize Theron returning as Cipher and Scott Eastwood as Little Nobody. Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, and Brie Larson will round out the cast, with Momoa expected to be playing the villain. Rita Moreno has also signed on to play Dom’s grandmother. Fast X is slated for a May 19, 2023.

What type of Fast & Furious spinoffs would you like to see after the main saga concludes?
