The Fast Saga has set a date for its next turbo-fueled installment. Universal Pictures has announced that the Fast & Furious 10 release is gearing for April 7, 2023.
This will return the Fast franchise to its familiar Easter weekend stomping grounds where it has found great success in the past. Furious 7, the highest-grossing film in the series was launched in 2015 on April 3 to $147.1 million domestic and ended its run at $353 million in the U.S. and $1.5 billion globally. Universal followed with The Fate of the Furious in 2017 on April 17 which notched the third biggest global debut of all-time at $541.9 million (before concluding at $1.2 billion worldwide). The hope is that by 2023, the Easter weekend will be able to shine once again as the pandemic will hopefully be a thing of the past.
According to “Deadline“, Universal quietly set the date for the film on Comscore, and Vin Diesel is expected to announce the title at some point in the future on social media. CinemaCon has usually been where Diesel makes a big Fast announcement but that would be a tall order this year since most studios are safely keeping their celeb talent at home from the event due to the surging Delta variant.
Fast 9 got the box office back on track when it opened to $70 million back in June. The film respected the theatrical window by not also debuting on streaming and in turn, is now the highest-grossing movie during the pandemic around the world with $681.5 million to date. The movie was the first Hollywood title during the Covid era to surpass $500 million overseas this past weekend. To date, the entire Fast franchise has grossed over $6 billion worldwide and Fast 10 is set to conclude the main story that will be split into two films.
