Fast 9: Jordana Brewster & Michelle Rodriguez finally share a scene together

This is some Fast & Furious trivia I wasn't aware of but Jordana Brewster's Mia and Michelle Rodriguez's Letty have never shared a scene together across the whole Fast saga. You would think Dom's sister would have some interaction with his ride or die but it has never happened. Until now! Jordana Brewster reveals that Fast 9 finally allows the duo to have a scene together.

During a chat with "Insider", Brewster said that there is some bonding that takes place between Mia and Letty. The topic was brought up when Brewster opened up about how Rodriguez made it her goal to give all of the female characters a bit more power in the film who also relate to each other. Here's what Brewster had to say:

Michelle [Rodriguez] was like, 'Dude, we've never had a scene together. We're always secondary with the guys. We don't interact. We have a sisterhood. We need to explore this.'

Going back to 2001's The Fast and the Furious, it is crazy that these characters have never shared a moment together. When the original cast came back for Fast & Furious, Letty's character was "killed off" early in the film so their characters didn't have a chance to cross paths. Rodriguez wasn't in Fast Five, the film where Mia sees the most action, and in the next two installments, Brewster's role is diminished a bit to that of "the girlfriend" or the sister in distress. Brewster also sat out for The Fate of the Furious but it's nice to know these two will finally have a moment in the new film. Brewster also went on to commend Rodriguez for her diligence in regards to creating a diverse, powerful, and equitable world within the franchise:

"Michelle's always been very outspoken about not doing anything that isn't true to character, and that means not placating the guys, that means not playing second fiddle to the guys. I'm really grateful that we got a chance to do that. Hopefully, we'll continue to explore it because there's so much to unearth there."

In Fast 9, "Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena)."

Are YOU surprised these two characters have never shared a scene together in the Fast Saga? Fast & Furious 9 hits screens on June 25, 2021.
